Spring Pillows.... Fat Quarters, Burlap and Ruffles!

So my front porch needed some dressin' up, and I finally found the time to knock it out...
I found the perfect bench, a cute little yellow pot at TJ Maxx for $5 and went from there!

Aren't these prints just super!
You can get some too at Craft Warehouse...

I had burlap on hand {of course} and just got fat quarters of a couple matchy prints

Cut the 2 sides to your pillow the size you want
{allowing 1/2" for stitching}
I went 15"x 5"
I decided I was going to do ruffles,
so before sewing the pillow together, I did this....
{So my end look would be finished and the ends of the ruffles would be INSIDE}

Cut 2" Strips and make sure the pretty side of the fabric is facing in when you sew

 Remember to leave an opening to flip it right side out!

Sew your opening shut once flipped and
stitch down the center of the strip on the longest stitch length your machine has {My setting is 4}

On one end of the strip, Tie a couple knots with the strings so your fabric strip wont slide off as you gather

 While holding one string in the opposite side of your knot, begin sliding the fabric down, creating your bunched ruuffles

You can make your ruffles as tight or loose as you want them...
Once it looks the way you want it, Tie the top end off the same way as before.

You'll want to end up like this

Sew the ruffles onto your  pillow leaving about an inch off each end

Place your two sides of the pillow together with the ruffles INSIDE
and sew around the edges leaving a small opening to flip it through and stuff.

Cut your corners before you flip so that they are nice and square.

Flip right side out and stuff!
I had this bag of stuffing from DI
{$1 - score!}
But it didn't go very far... so I used lots of plastic bags that were filling up the cabinet under the sink

FINALLY
I used my Silhouette SD to create a stencil for our house number
and painted with gray acrylic paint

Made a couple more pillows with the same fabric
LOVE Em!!!
Much Better!... Right!?

Seriously... How great is my Bench.
I paid more than I wanted to -
{Because lets face it, its weathered 2x4's... it would NOT be hard to make}
But it was perfect so I did it anyways.
