{Informal Home} Guest Blogger!

I want to thank Tara for inviting me to do my first ever guest post.  I feel so honored, and hope I do it justice.  I love visiting here because I enjoy all things crafty, and diy.

If any of you have happened upon my blog, you will be well aware that we have been in renovation mode for an eternity, and there is no end in sight.  Most of us have dead space somewhere in our home, and there are many ways it could be utilized, and sometimes it gets so overwhelming we do nothing, or we can't decide what would work best.  That's okay.  Families circumstances change, thus their needs change.  So there is no right or wrong.  We had a dead space which is a doorway we filled in. It has been a dead space for a few years.  Only last week it hit me what I should do with that space.

Here is what was going on there:

Okay, but not what I wanted long term.  Notice the depth of the space is quite narrow, so it limited me as to what I could put there.  Here is a couple of clues about where we went with it.

Yes, I think you know what's going on here.  Let's just say, this was a thick piece of driftwood straight off the beach, likely from a ship.  It needed major hardware to get it fixed to the wall, not quite as major as this though:

After a couple of failed attempts, we found we needed to counter-sink the screws.  That did the trick.  I was beginning to think my great idea was going to be a no go.  Here is the result:

It 's going to work great for us, because while I like to hang decorative things up there, it can also be put to good use with things like hats, coats, bags, children, etc.  It's freed up the top of that little bench which could also be used for shoes (but wouldn't look anywhere near as nice).  Of course I can move the bench right out of there if need be.  At first I thought the rack may be too high.  It wasn't optional, this is where the solid part of the wall was.  But now, looking at the bags on there, and imagining winter coats and scarves, I think it will allow for that bench and all my things I like to display.

I hope this has you thinking of how you might utilize some spaces you  haven't considered before.  Thanks for having me Tara, it's been a pleasure.

Please stop by for a visit!
